Superior Imaging Performance of All-Fiber, Two-Focusing-Element Microendoscopes

چکیده

All-fiber-optic imaging microendoscopes are emerging as an important tool in bioimaging studies, including those conducted with optical coherence tomography, but physical limitations constrain the achievable beam characteristics of designs using a single focusing element. These constraints especially relevant for applications that require long working distance, high resolution, and/or minimal probe diameter. Through detailed analysis based on ABCD matrix modelling, we show side-viewing probes combining graded-index (GRIN) fiber ball lens – GRIN-ball-lens (GBLPs) offer superior performance over range numerical apertures and pave way broader applications. The GBLPs designed 1300-nm tomography is compared against commonly used single-focusing-element all-fiber designs, namely, ball-lens (BLPs) GRIN-fiber (GFPs). All possible realizations this novel design their impact requisite tradeoffs investigated, fabrication error refractive index surrounding medium. Applications GBLPs, ultra-high-resolution (sub-2 micrometer) miniature micro-endomicroscopy, discussed.

A Data Focusing method for Microwave Imaging of Extended Targets

This paper presents a data focusing method (DFM) to image extended targets using the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. The restriction on the number of transmitter-receiver antennas in a microwave imaging system deteriorates profiling an extended target that comprises many point scatterers. Under such situation, the subspace-based linear inverse scattering methods, like the MUSI...

All-fiber passively mode-locked femtosecond laser using a 45º-tilted fiber grating polarization element.

We report on the demonstration of an all-fiber femtosecond erbium doped fiber laser passively mode-locked using a 45º tilted fiber grating as an in-fiber polarizer in the laser cavity. The laser generates 600 fs pulses with output pulse energies ~1 nJ. Since the 45° tilted grating has a broad polarization response, the laser output has shown a tunabilty in wavelength from 1548 nm to 1562 nm by ...

Passive All-Fiber Wavelength Measurement Systems: Performance Determination Factors

Passive all-fiber edge filter based devices are very often used for wavelength demodulation system for many sensors such as fiber Bragg gratings. The advantage of passive linear edge filter systems are their low cost, ease of fabrication and high measurement speed compared to active wavelength measurement systems. The accuracy and resolution of a fiber edge filter based wavelength measurement s...

All-fiber tunable filter and laser based on two-mode fiber.

We demonstrate an all-fiber acousto-optic tunable filter based on two-spatial-mode coupling, with improved ruggedness and efficiency, by using a new acoustic-transducer design. We use a rigorous modeling of the flexural acoustic wave to analyze the mode coupling with better accuracy. Using the acousto-optic tunable filter, we demonstrate a novel all-fiber tunable laser with a tuning range of mo...

All-fiber Optofluidic Biosensor

Optical fiber provides a unique and versatile platform for developing point-of-care optical sensing systems. Here we first propose a Fabry-Pérot (FP) based flow-through optofluidic biosensor, and then construct an all-fiber system which fully utilizes optical fibers to achieve rapid, sensitive, label-free biomolecular detection. This sensor consists of two single mode fibers (SMFs) with reflect...
